I was born in Amityville, NY, (the horror) and grew up in Ridgefield, CT. Looking back it was a good town to grow up in. I hated it at the time, I wanted to get out, break free, see the world, but now, looking back…it wasn’t so bad. Small town, close friends, I was part of the herd. There’s comfort in small numbers. Can you say moo?
I briefly attended The University Of Arizona, majored in journalism, but I was too hyper to sit still and study. I drove into the desert and never went back.
Now I live in Danbury, Connecticut, with my wife Lauren Baratz-Logsted (a great writer…do yourself a huge favor and check out her books; they’re amazing) and my daughter Jackie (also a published writer). I’ve co-written some great books for kids with Lauren and Jackie.
I’ve always been self-employed. I like doing things on my own. I hate being told what to do. I hate the idea of an office and a nine-to-five. I like working outside. I like the fresh air and sunshine. I like having a “crew” and not a “staff”.
I spend my nights and weekends writing. I’m constructing a ladder with words. I’m just going to keep climbing it as high as I can.
Write hard; live free.
